Pearl & Epic / MyChart
Pearl is a patient-facing digital health advocate. With your permission, Pearl connects to Epic / MyChart so you can organize your own health records and understand your care.
What Pearl imports
When you connect, Pearl reads the following FHIR R4 resources from your Epic record, when your Epic organization makes them available:
- Labs & observations (Observation, DiagnosticReport)
- Medications (MedicationRequest)
- Allergies (AllergyIntolerance)
- Conditions (Condition)
- Encounters / visits (Encounter)
- Procedures (Procedure)
- Immunizations (Immunization)
- Clinical documents (DocumentReference)
- Demographics (Patient)
Why Pearl imports it
Pearl uses these records to build your private health timeline — a single, organized view of your care — and to help you prepare questions, understand results in plain language, and advocate for yourself with your clinicians. Pearl is not a doctor and does not provide medical care.
Read-only access
Pearl's Epic access is strictly read-only. Pearl never writes to your chart and does not message your care team, schedule appointments, refill medications, or perform billing actions.
Availability varies by organization
The data available through Epic depends on your health system and what your Epic organization has enabled. Some resources may be empty or unavailable for a given account. Pearl shows you a connection quality report after connecting so you can see what was found.
Read-only by design
Pearl uses a read-only SMART on FHIR (R4) connection. It only reads your records to organize your timeline — it never writes to your chart, and never sends messages, refills, schedules, or bills on your behalf.
Your control
- You sign in directly with Epic; Pearl never sees your MyChart password.
- Imported records live in your device's encrypted local storage.
- Access tokens are stored encrypted server-side and never exposed to the browser.
- You can disconnect and revoke access anytime from Settings, and revoke Pearl from within MyChart.
